Marie Sutherland was the DRC director or field work.
Born on March 12, 1962, in Paragould, Arkansas, she received a doctorate in anthropology from Southern Illinois University before entering the teaching profession. As a teacher, she met Dr. Watson, who invited her on an expedition to D'ni in 1993. She became a founding member of the DRC, serving from 1997 until 2004.
When the DRC reformed in 2006, Marie returned to her old position. As part of her duties with the DRC, Sutherland was responsible for Phase Three (Detailed Analysis) and Phase Five (Limited Access) restoration efforts for all structures and Ages.
Sutherland did not particularly like Cate Alexander's influence in the DRC in 2006 and 2007, and specifically didn't like that after joining the DRC, Alexander had two votes in the council.
Sutherland is the only DRC member with an area of the D'ni cavern named after her. The overlook at the northwest corner of the Palace complex was nicknamed Sutherland Point because it was the first place she was seen and photographed by an explorer. It's unknown whether anyone remembers the original name for the overlook.
