Jeff ZandiJeff Zandi is the son of Elias Zandi, the man who funded the first expeditions to D'ni. When Elias died of heart failure in 1996, he left his remaining fortune to the D'ni Restoration Foundation, but left the land surrounding the Cleft to Jeff.

Jeff was originally involved with the DRF, the organization founded by his father and Dr. Watson, but left when he and his father became estranged over what "restoration" of D'ni should mean. They did not reconcile before Elias passed away. When Dr. Watson reorganized the DRF into the D'ni Restoration Council, he offered a place on it to Jeff, but Jeff refused, stating that his vision for the restoration was "beyond what the Council could comprehend".

Jeff, who was very interested in learning why D'ni was abandoned, seems to have met Yeesha at some point during his research and became enamored of her teachings. In 2003, he began living in a trailer near the Cleft part time, waiting to assist explorers who were drawn there onto the Path of the Hand.

Jeff was one of the true believers in Yeesha, along with Phil Henderson. His faith in her never wavered. He thought that Yeesha knew the answers about what the restoration of D'ni should be, and how to go about it. Even to this day, long after the DRC disbanded and left D'ni behind, Jeff can be found by new explorers waiting for them by his trailer.
